Alô Brasil, a Philadelphia-based Brazilian band, was born out of a passion for Brazilian music. Accompanied by stunningly costumed dancers, the band draws audiences into a “tornado of rhythm and sound.”
Alô Brasil, evolved out of previous Philadelphia-area Brazilian music groups PhilaSamba (mid-late 1980s), Banda Bacana (early 1990s), and Samba Nosso (mid-late 1990s). Individual band members, steeped in the musically rich Philadelphia environment, bring a wealth of experience to the stage. Not only have they paraded with Rio de Janeiro Samba Schools during Carnaval, appeared on Brazilian television, and studied Capoeira Angola for many years, but also they have performed around the world with top acts in jazz, Latin, African, Afro-Cuban, and R&B music.
Not just performers, Alô Brasil’s artists are dedicated and experienced teachers whose mission is to communicate the energizing joy, the mind-boggling diversity, and the historical and cultural significance of Brazilian music. Through hands-on work with members of Alô Brasil, students of all ages and backgrounds begin to appreciate the uniqueness of Brazilian music and dance, as well as the underlying commonalties shared with North American popular styles.
Alô Brasil transforms audiences into enthusiastic participants, and ordinary events into joyful celebrations!
