The Long’s Park Amphitheater Foundation presents the 38th Annual Long’s Park Art Festival, Friday, September 2nd through Sunday, September 4th on Labor Day Weekend. Festival hours are 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Friday and Saturday, and 10 a.m. until 5 p.m. Sunday. According to festival’s Artistic Director Diane Moore, this year will give the more than 10,000 attendees a wonderful variety of genres and new artists.
“We are so pleased with the increased volume of artists submissions this year, and – more importantly – the quality of the work that has been submitted for review by our jurors,” Moore said. “While we always feature some crowd favorite artists from years past, visitors will meet many new exhibitors and will have an opportunity to view and purchase some outstanding work,” she stated.
The jurors are currently going through hundreds of submissions from artists from throughout the United States. Organizers are also reviewing submissions in a new category this year – “Emerging Artists” – featuring work by young, new artists.
Because this is a “Juried” art show, only the very best artists are selected. This helps ensure the best quality and variety of exhibitors. The genres of art featured at the 38th Annual Long’s Park Art Festival include:
- Fiber, Decorative
- Fiber, Wearable
- Jewelry, Non-precious
- Jewelry, Precious
- Mixed Media, 2D
- Mixed Media, 3D
Bill Wright, the Development Director for the Long’s Park Amphitheater Foundation, says many people don’t realize the connection between the park’s Summer Music Series and the Art Festival. “The ticket price that attendees pay for entry into the Art Festival helps fund the free concerts held each summer for our Summer Music Series,” Wright stated. “If it weren’t for this Art Festival, and the 10,000 art lovers who come through our gates each Labor Day Weekend, the free concerts wouldn’t happen,” he stated. “The Art Festival ensures that every weekend, June through August, music-lovers of all ages bring their blankets and lawn chairs to the Amphitheater lawn to enjoy the very best live performances in a wide variety of music genres – including our popular Patriotic Concert and Fireworks,” Wright stated. “For 2016 – in addition to the thirteen Sunday concerts – we have added three Saturday concerts featuring a variety of local bands.”
The Long’s Park Art Festival is more than a shopping experience for art lovers. Bonnie St. John, the event’s Operations Director, says “the more than 200 artists set up their tents and artwork nestled among towering old shade trees surrounding a spring-fed lake in the 80-acre, century old Long’s Park. In addition to strolling the grounds and viewing the artwork, attendees can also enjoy live music from some outstanding area musicians and singers. The Susquehanna Style Bistro features a tremendous variety of food and drink from some of Lancaster County’s finest restaurants and pubs.”
After a hiatus, the Kids Art in the Park Tent, sponsored by Art Matters, is back at the festival, and is located in the Susquehanna Style Bistro area. “We are so grateful for the more than 200 volunteers who help us run the festival,” St. John continued. “From help with the free parking to sitting in an artist’s booth to give them a break to helping buyers carry larger items to their car, our volunteers really make the show a success,” she said.
According to David Wauls, President of the Long Park Amphitheater Foundation’s board of directors, “the festival also relies on the local business community to provide financial support through corporate sponsorships and display ads in the printed Festival Directory. The closing date for the advertising and sponsorships ends June 30, 2016. Interested companies can contact the festival management at 717-735-8883,” Wauls said.
